So here it is, in all it's rushed and harried glory. Despite its stump-like, unmolded form vs. log-like, molded form, I think it will taste quite well. And, at this point, I'll walk away happy with a lot of "Yums" from my New Year's Eve revelers.
Click here for the recipe. It is listed under Daring Bakers 2008 December Recipe.doc I changed just a couple items as I was already behind the power curve and I didn't want to complicate an already busy day.
I made a soft white chocolate/caramel instead of chocolate ganache for one of the inserts. And, for the praline feuillete insert I used macadamia nuts, but I did make the gavotte.
This month's Daring Baker's challenge is brought to us by the adventurous Hilda from Saffron and Blueberry and Marion from Il en Faut Peu Pour Etre Heureux. They have chosen a French Yule Log by Flore from Florilege Gourmand

Thanks for the good-luck wishes for me and my oven predicament... your cake looks beautiful and I love that thick layer of creme brulee (it was my favorite layer... I wanted to eat it by itself :P).
Hi Camille!
WOW! It looks delicious! Glad you tried the challenge and had such success. I was in Colorado the last week of December and there would have been no way I could have even attempted to make that at my son's house. I didn't have company earlier in the month to make it for either, and I certainly wouldn't want to eat something so sweet on my own.
I hope your New Year's guests liked it!
Thansk for the nice commnets about my baby gransson -- he is such a cutie and I hated to leave him behind. I hope to see him again in the spring!
HAPPY 2009!!
Hugs, Pat

I like the round, it was my first thought for my shape.
And I see nothing wrong with your icing! Everything looks great.
